Markus Wasmeier, born in 1963, is Germany's most successful skier.

He won two Olympic gold medals, has been world champion and won several World Cup races. Along with his international triumphs, he was German champion nine times and was elected 'National Sportsman of the Year' in 1994.

After ending his career in sports, he founded the farm and winter sport museum 'Bauernhof- und Wintersportmuseum Schliersee e.V.' and has remained its curator and patron ever since. As a professional painter and conservator, Markus Wasmeier lives in his place of birth together with his family (his wife and three sons) in an old farmhouse.
