TEACHING PROJECT

NEW YORK, USA

Since 2012

Fellows traveled to the Green Chimneys school to tackle their Project Challenge: learn how to help children with special needs maximize their potential with the help of animals and create a how-to guide that will help spread awareness about the school’s unique approach to learning. Mentored by Friend Dr. Sam Ross—a pioneer in the field with six decades of experience in this educational philosophy—the Fellows learned about animal-assisted therapy for children with emotional, behavioral, and learning difficulties. Emphasizing practical learning, Fellows shadowed Green Chimneys’ teachers and therapists, learned about lesson planning, sheltering and working with pets and farm animals, before leading activities themselves.
