THEATER CHALLENGE

HAMBURG, GERMANY

April – June
2013

As part of the Theater Challenge Fellows from different continents congregated at the Inspiration Academy in Hamburg to learn how to write and stage a theater piece. Director and project Friend Nils Daniel Finckh guided them through how to create a play and explored how theater can facilitate positive social change. Fellows met experts and practitioners—actors, directors, writers, costume designers, and activists, among others—who shared their insight into the theater world. Fellows were immersed in creative and practical aspects of the theater, as well as in theoretical elements, such as the social impact the medium can have when addressing current and universal issues. After this ten-week session, Fellows returned home and implemented a project of their choosing, supported by an innovative online curriculum and an experienced mentor.
